Share
Mt McIntosh is located to the North-East of Glenorchy, and is a sister summit of Black Peak. Boasting two huts, each with incredible views down into the Rees/ Dart river mouths, the stunning Lake Wakatipu, and across to Mt Earnslaw, Mt Bonpland, and the Humboldt Mountains.
With two routes available to access the hill, its easy to make this as adventurous as you like.
Following the northern McIntosh Loop track takes you along a breathtaking ridge, before you decide whether to continue up to McIntosh Hut and the summit, or descending towards McIntyre Hut.
Starting from the south, head along the Judah track following the valley floor. After dropping down, cross the Buckler Burn and follow the track steeply up towards the McIntyre Hut or continue on past to the heights of McIntosh.
If you're looking for an adventure, heading up to the summit before bedding down in either hut is an outstanding option, just remember to pack everything out with you, and pack your own loo roll!
As always, check the DOC website before heading out to keep up to date with safety information and important track condition updates!
