Queenstown Hill Track
Share
Nestled away on the outskirts of town by Belfast Terrace you'll find the Queenstown Hill Track that caters to anyones walking abilities!
The picturesque 1.5km walk up Te Tapunui offers stunning views, and illustrations giving information on Queenstown's rich Maori history and the iconic Goldrush that shaped Queenstown to what it is today. Queenstown Hill as mentioned is catered to all capabilities so time to complete this can range from 1.5hrs return with high fitness and more leisurely strolls taking around 3hrs return, so tackling the 2,976ft elevation can prove difficult for some but still definitely achievable!
Beginning the walk at a steady incline it will take you through the windy route of the pine forest which leads to openings in the tree line that offers spectacular views. As your venture continues you'll notice visitor-created attractions featuring numerous, tiny fairy houses tucked into the trees, and miniature, colourful ornaments which make the walk even more special! Further up the trail, you will find the iconic "Basket of Dreams" sculpture.
Fancy a challenge? You'll see the track continues after the Basket Of Dreams for a short period which deviates to the left up the short but steep hill. The abrupt but brief walk offers even better scenery and plenty of chances to snap breath-taking photos at the top of the renowned summit that overlooks The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, parts of Lake Wakatipu and the Kawarau River.
On the loop back down you have the chance to take an alternative route that veers off down into the pine forest on the left hand-side aswell!
